Recognizable, this will be. Enter the Wind Tower, Richard Moreta Architecture new conceptual for the Hospitality Design’s Radical Innovation design competition.

Operating like a living organism, the Wind Tower  literally breathes through its wind and atmospheric conversion systems, which allow natural air into the interior of the building without mechanical intervention. Photovoltaic exterior sheathing provides the building’s energy, while indoor gardens at various levels of the structure act as upward extensions of the earth, creating mini-microclimates that filter the air and act as added insulation.

Recycled pools of water around the structure serve as catch basins, water reservoirs, fire barriers, and indispensable decorative aquatic features. Power from the wind turbine heats the boiler and creates steam for the chiller water plant beneath the structure to cool and heat the hotel.

Within the hotel, rooms would be designed on a 4 foot multiple to conform to standard-sized materials and reduce construction waste. A high-efficiency LED system would illuminate the interiors, and non-toxic, non-off-gassing finishes would be employed. Besides the typical water-efficient fixtures, this eco resort would use recovered rainwater for flushing and irrigation. The rooms would also include a mood pad control unit that would allow each guest to control the lighting and choose groovy digital images that would reflect behind glass walls and ceilings.

To help this giant eco-egg blend even more subtly into the surrounding urban context, exterior LED curtain walls would change color throughout the night to indicate the progression of time, making the Envision glow in the night like a giant, moody Fabergé egg.

    My name is Richard Moreta and I am the architect and designer for the “Wind Tower” exterior design of the building (100%) and for the interior I share this responsability with the interior designer John Naranjo @ 50% participation under my coordination for the design (John was working only in the interior).

    I really apologize that you has been misinform by Mr. Naranjo about the nemesis and description of the inspiration and functionality of the design and constructions systems…

    The credits most read as:

    Mr. Naranjo was awared of the situation and I do not think that was accidentally that you got it wrong spining the credits (read bellow email posted). I hope that this uncomfortable situation do not happen again (the same situation happen with the Hospitality Design Magazine (in this case I was able to cached it on time)…Other wise I will be obligated to use legal resources to avoid a second incident. Must be clear that between Richard Moreta Architecture and Mr. Narajo there is not longer any professional labor relation and you must stop the use of my design to your own benefits.

    Again I apologize to the MRA group for the embarrass of the experience and if we are going to show the credits must read as how Ms. Rachel Long described so explicit and clear in the past issued of the “Hospitality Design Magazine” past publications:

    Note: The design of the tower it is not inspired from any flower…It is corresponded to the Venturi effect…

    The Venturi effect is the reduction in fluid pressure that results when a fluid flows through a constricted section of pipe (in this case there were two towers and for to get the maximum speed of the mass of air across the tower the logic was to located close to each other and design the complete building with aerodynamic shapes plus all the other factors that I wrote in the original narrative of the project and later was adjusted by Mr. Naranjo). The fluid velocity must increase through the constriction to satisfy the equation of continuity, while its pressure must decrease due to conservation of energy: the gain in kinetic energy is balanced by a drop in pressure or a pressure gradient force”.
